In Memoriam: Nathan Goldberg

Founding Partner

We honor the life, legacy, and extraordinary career of Nathan Goldberg, one of the founding partners of Allred, Maroko & Goldberg, whose dedication to justice and unwavering advocacy helped define our firm and the field of employment law in California.

Nathan was widely recognized as one of California’s preeminent plaintiff-side employment lawyers. The Daily Journal named him one of the Top 10 Plaintiff Employment Lawyers in California, a distinction that reflected both his legal excellence and his profound commitment to representing working people.

A graduate of Loyola Law School, where he earned his degree summa cum laude in 1974, Nathan combined intellectual rigor with courtroom mastery. He spent his life fighting for (mostly) women’s rights. For decades, he was named one of the Top 100 Southern California “Super Lawyers” by Law & Politics and Los Angeles Magazine, every year since 2004. He was also recognized by LawDragon as one of the 500 Leading Plaintiff Lawyers in America.

Throughout his career, Nathan secured landmark verdicts that reshaped lives and held powerful institutions accountable. In 2019, he obtained two verdicts against Alki David, one for $58.25 million. In 2006, he obtained an $18 million jury verdict on behalf of a Vons employee who was wrongfully terminated after reporting sexual harassment. He served as lead trial counsel in numerous high-impact cases, including Adams v. Los Angeles Unified School District and Salama v. King Drew Medical Center, each resulting in jury awards exceeding $4 million. Nathan also achieved significant victories in cases such as Tylo v. Spelling, a pregnancy discrimination trial that resulted in a nearly $5 million verdict, and Thorne v. City of El Segundo, in which he served as both trial and appellate counsel. In Thomas v. City of Los Angeles, he successfully represented the wrongfully terminated director of the Los Angeles Zoo, securing a mandatory injunction restoring his client to his position and full relief for the violation of due process.

Beyond the courtroom, Nathan was a respected educator and leader in the legal community. He frequently spoke on employment law issues and served on numerous Continuing Education of the Bar (CEB) and Los Angeles County panels, generously sharing his knowledge with fellow attorneys.

Nathan’s legacy lives on through the countless clients he championed, the precedents he helped establish, and the values he instilled at our firm—integrity, courage, and an unrelenting pursuit of justice. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
